That's right everyone, I will be starting the monthly photo contests once the forum gets up to around 30 members. It will happen monthly like it says and it'll be themed.
Rules:
- Only 1 photo submission per contest (make sure you pick a good one!)*You may edit your post to put up a different photo as much as you want until the closing date of the contest*
- The photo(s) MUST take after what the monthly theme is (example; if the theme is "Summer time!" you should enter a photo of your reptile out enjoying a summer day)
- Winners will get to pick the next month's contest theme!
- Photos MUST showcase a reptile, you can have someone posing with it, but there has to be a reptile somewhere in the photo to be considered for the contest.
*Rules can be changed at any time so make sure you check back often!*
Photo Guidelines for a potential Winning shot:
- Keep your camera steady while taking a picture
- Make sure the area is well lit, or find some way to provide efficient lighting so the subject can be seen
- Be creative, when setting up for a photo, keep in mind where the shadows are, lighting, details, and zoom can all effect the quality of a shot!
- Timing is everything! Take several photos, not just one; this is so you can get shots from different angles and be able to time your shots so you end up with great photos.
- Watch that zoom! Some cameras (cheaper digital cams) cannot go too close to a subject/object without blurring. Though, you can take an outstanding photo while still at a decent distance away.
If you seek more help for taking photos, I recommend searching on Youtube for video tutorials on how to properly set up camera settings to take better photos.
Winner's Circle:
The winner of each monthly photo contest will get the following:
- They will decide on the next month's contest theme
- Decide if they want to make it breed-specific (ex. Ball Pythons Only)
- Be able to judge on the winning photo for the next monthly contest (if tie-breaker is needed)
- A special badge indicating you won a photo contest *Still being tested out!*
Voting & How it will work:
All of the photos entered will be left in the thread titled for that month's entries. The thread will be LOCKED after the submission period is over. This will prevent anyone from changing their photo behind forum staff and possibly cheat for a win so the contest remains fair. A 2nd thread will be created with a POLL showing the photo choices by number. Each photo entered will be given a number based on when it was entered of course. (Ex. Entry #1, Entry #2, etc) Members of the forum will then be able to VOTE on their favorite photo. *Only 1 vote per user!* Once the voting period has ended, the photo with the most number of votes will be the winner, and the member who entered the photo will be allowed to pick the following month's theme.
This will be great fun, and give people a chance to show off their animals to the rest of the forum. Yes, you may show off your photo skills, this is a photo contest after all!
*I ask that all members who submit an entry to be kind and respective of their fellow members, and competitors who also participate in the contest. If you don't win, don't worry there will be plenty more contests to come! Keep taking photos, one just might make you a winner!*
Thank you everyone! Hope you all like this idea.
